I recorded a podfic!

Notes: A favourite of mine. The urge to make a podfic suddenly came upon me, unfortunately when I hadn't completely gotten over a cold so my voice is even more nasal than usual. Sorry about that, but I didn't have the energy to re-record so I hope you can still enjoy it. Also apologies for the very bad singing :)

Rodney's Sonnet
Created for the Drawesome "inspired by poetry" challenge. This work follows my fanart in Dramatis Personae - in which Rodney's a playwright and John an actor in an Elizabethan company called the Atlantis Players. I wrote this sonnet a while back for the (still WIP) story in this series, so I figured I might as well post it, both for this challenge and for National Poetry month. Pen and ink, with watercolour shading.

A failed experiment! I'm following this forum on Mastodon, and it followed me back immediately, but this post didn't show up over there. @mific do you think there's something in the channel permissions that's blocking the posts from going through to Mastodon?

Well, I'm baffled, unless a new post is needed to show it, as maybe it can't retrospectively alter where the post went. Here's a screenshot of the permissions I have ticked for "Default", which is what it's set to.

I feel like "Can source my public posts in derived channels" is close to what we want (whatever it means), but of course it's already checked. I was looking at channel permissions and I'm personally set to "Social - Federation" but there's no equivalent of that for Forums, which is a little strange. I'm baffled, and the documentation isn't helping at all. I can't even guess if this is a Hubzilla or a Mastodon problem.

I made a new post each time you fiddled with something, so if the issue was fixed, the new post should have shown up on Mastodon, because, yes, it's not retroactive.

Now I'm poking at custom privacy settings and seeing what's in there.

It's impeccably written with spot-on characterization and fantastic use of Sam.

The answer is yes. Also I edited my secret copy to add a category, and it showed up here as well, so these two posts are inextricably linked. So I guess the only reason to post solely to a forum is if you don't want to bother your followers with it. Because you (the poster) still end up with a copy.

Right! That's how I'd expect a community/forum to work--that the post only shows up there. The mechanism is just so much different on Hubzilla I wasn't sure what was going to happen. The nice thing is that even if you post to your channel and the forum, if your followers are subbed to both, they still only see the post once. (Or so I've heard.)

That's both odd and sort of awesome. You can find it more easily on your own homepage than on a busy forum if you have to make any edits, and you've got a copy right there of the comments. Hmm, and I wonder if a mod deleted the copy on the forum, you'd still have your copy - that would make sense with granular controls. So no one else can take your content away from you.

OTOH, if the ability to post via bang is going away, it could all be moot regardless. Unless posting to a forum's "wall" also creates a secret backup copy on your own channel, hm.
