We weren't watching it at all until last week, when suddenly we slammed right through season 1. We've only just started s2 - the killer virus made us detour. :)

What do you think of the killer virus? I loved the book, and I'm interested in the series, but I'm not sure watching it would be good for me.

It's a National Geographic production (... and yet definitely a miniseries, with known actors, not a documentary), and so far it's pretty damn good. We're 3 eps in. It shifts between 1976 (I think) and 1989, and very strongly credits the two Army colonels who did lots of the 1989 work.
The weirdest thing for me is how realistic the 1989 stuff is; I remember when ebola was something we were just hearing about and was so terrifying, but also looking back at it, wow, we have come so far since then, and I'd never really put that together in my head (maybe I was retroactively applying current standards?). We are so much better prepared for virus-borne dangers, even just in terms of quarantine and sterile precautions.
We're enjoying it, fwiw!

Ooh, sounds great. I know Julianna Margulies is in it, and I love her. Is it graphic or gory at all?

Not as graphic or gory as you'd expect! There are dead bodies, and some burned dead bodies; some dead monkeys; some blood and blood spatter; some forensic-y poking at bloody tissue. And one shooting (medium distance, not closeup). But it's all much more '90s-broadcast-tv level than HBO or Showtime level. (Think updated MASH, not Hannibal )

oh, also! If you're an MCU person, it has Jarvis from Agent Carter
(he's playing an American, which is disconcerting, but it's nice to see him working!) Also Robert Sean Leonard.

RSL! Haven't seen him in a while, like since
House
.
I think I'll give this a try! Thanks for the notes.
