Right now, this place feels like an unnecessarily complicated dw. With photohosting.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hihi - no, not at all, but you're not using all the features yet. Yes, its like DW if by that you mean, longform posts with comments; but also you can hit like or share, which you can't on DW; you can host and embed images very easily, which you can't on DW (and we're working on integrating metrics so artists can track their work); we're working to interoperate with PeerTube video hosting so that vids appear more or less natively in the stream and be rebloggable, liek tumblr; you can bookmark or star/favorite posts, search broadly across the platform; there are chat rooms etc. This hubzilla DW is also interoperable with Mastedon (unlike DW) and can (like DW) be used as an RSS reader. This is what we're hammering out. :D

I haven't figured out how to share. That would be a good start to making it different. And yeah, images are easier than dw, but still nowhere near as easy as tumblr.

I know I need to explore more, but it's frustrating. I poked and looked and poked some more and couldn't figure out how to share, though I've seen it done. And yeah, I got the liking thing, though it has an unfortunate side effect of automatically subscribing you to that post.

I probably came in too early is what.

Hmm do you not have a share option in the gear next to the liking thumb?

Also, let me suggest you try the site out on a phone and or make the browser window smaller. As the site condenses it tends to privilege / foreground the more useful options! It might help with the feeling of overwhelm. Conversely, yes, wait for the bugs to be ironed out and the more exciting content to arrive! :)

This is weird. Because I swear I looked in the gear for some sort of sharing option before and did not find one. But now! Now it's there. But not always. It's a start.

I suppose what I'll do is just sit and watch. Occasionally post something for the sake of not being a complete wasted of space.

Don't feel compelled to do ANYTHING - its all so provisional, and you should only do stuff if it's fun for you atm. But if you have a question or need help, just ask - I'll answer and everyone else has been super nice too. And also, if you see someone saying something about a feature or whatever where you have an opinion or want to help test, wade in. They're talking about art sharing now etc. :D There have also been some first fic posts and recs. You might need to friend more people--go check out the directory in the right sidebar (or in the hamburger on the extreme right top) and see if there's anyone else you know!

@cesperanza I used the share when I was at a post but it's not displayed. Do you think it's still 'working on it', I am looking for it in the wrong place (I don't think I know where my hub is, though I know two ways to my channel, or Some Other Issue?

I have btw figured out the issue, I was in fact not looking where I needed to, and I've seen one I did later. :wstentacle:
